On 20 Jan 1964, Alaskan National Guard activated the 36th, 37th and 39th Special Forces Detachments in Kotzebue, Anchorage and Gambell.​

​

The AK SF Dets was organized under TO&E 33-105D, dated 21 Mar 60. ​

​

The SF Dets wore the Reserve Component Special Forces beret flash and striker bar.​

Alaska National Guard

Commander: 

In 1965, the reserve components (USAR, ARNG) were streamlined. The units not part of the Strategic Reserve, not included in the War Plans, were realigned. In 1966, the 36th, 37th, and 38th SF dets were reorganized as the 38th SF Det.

 

The 38th SF Det was organized under TO&E 33-105D, dated 21 Mar 60.

 

The 38th SF Det wore the Reserve Component Special Forces beret flash and striker bar.

Project Notes:

1 This is phase 1, of a 2-phase plan, that will cover activation in 1964 to deactivation in 1974 and beyond.
    a. Phase 1: Beginning until 65-end of May 2026
    b. Phase 2: 1965- Deactivation
